Guide your child to achieve a good study habit

Children are easily distracted. They are easily drawn by anything that catches their attention. You have probably heard him yelling your name in excitement because he saw a butterfly in his room. Or ask you to get a dog because your neighbor has one. This is actually good, because these feed their curiosity and he becomes more aware of things.

But oftentimes, these distractions get in the way of his studies. If your child just started to go to school, it would be difficult for him to concentrate and study the lessons discussed in class. During this stage in your child’s life, he needs guidance and assistance in order to find a comfortable way of studying.

Children’s study habits vary. Some children would prefer to be alone. This way they can concentrate more on what they are reading. Others need the presence of peers or other family members. They easily absorb what they are studying about if they ask questions and someone is there to discuss it with them. While others need something else to do while murmuring in order to comprehend what they are reading. Sometimes, they need to dramatize what they are reading to have a better grasp of the idea.

It is important that parents help their children figure out the best way for them to learn. It is also equally important that his environment is conducive for learning. If your child has his own room, you can organize his room in such a way that he will not be easily distracted by toys or noise. Make sure that the room is illuminated enough for reading. You can provide a more comfortable study area in his room. Make sure that the height of his table and chair are comfortable for him. He’d learn more effectively if he is comfortable while studying.

You can also add certain pieces that will allow him to learn without straining himself from reading. You can use schoolroom carpet in his room. There are a lot of designs to choose from. Choose a design that is more complex to remember. After using the carpet for a while, he will familiarize it even if it was not his intention to memorize whatever is drawn on the carpet. You can also post educational posters on his wall. You can change the posters as your child’s lessons progress. You can also use the different educational software. You can teach him how to use the computer and assist him in his studies when needed.

You can also add bookshelves to organize his study materials. Store his toys in the cabinet. He can still play of course. Just keep the toys out of his sight so that he won’t easily be distracted. You can also schedule his activities. Tell him that he can only play after the schoolwork is done. This will teach your child to be responsible and have self discipline.

Children’s study habits are formed during their first few years in school. Help them form a good study habit by guiding them with their activities. This will help them balance their responsibilities in the long run.
